Private Photography Lessons?
This is not a long-term programme.
There’s no big commitment.
And nothing to plan months in advance.
Private lessons are focused, one-to-one sessions designed to help you move forward - right now.
You sit alongside a highly experienced professional photographer with over 50 years behind the camera, with direct access to that knowledge, experience, and way of thinking.
Many people choose private lessons for exactly that reason. Workshops have their place, but you are part of a group - you simply don’t get the same level of direct access or attention.
Here, it’s just you and me.
You also have the flexibility to learn at times that suit you. Rather than fitting around fixed course dates, we arrange sessions at mutually convenient times that work around your life.
Each session is practical, straightforward, and built around your needs - so you leave with clarity, confidence, and a clear sense of what to do next.

Remote tuition via Zoom
Online teaching is not my preferred way of working. Photography is a practical craft, and the most effective learning happens side by side.
However, I appreciate that not everyone can travel. Where appropriate, I will offer sessions via Zoom—but only when I’m confident the subject can be taught properly in that format.

If your circumstances mean that working via webcam is the only practical way to spend time with me, please get in touch in advance so we can talk it through. I’ll be happy to advise on whether online tuition is the right fit for what you want to achieve. Use the button below to arrange a mutually convenient time for a phone call.

Why Private Lessons Work...
Most photographers don’t struggle because they lack ability - they struggle because they don’t quite know what to focus on next. Left on your own, it’s easy to drift… to repeat the same habits… or to feel unsure whether you’re actually improving.
Workshops can help, but they are often fixed in format. You share the time with others, move at a group pace, and cover topics that may not fully apply to you. The date and time are set - and you have to fit around them.
Private lessons remove those limitations.
You choose when we meet - at times that suit you.
You set the pace - we move as quickly or as carefully as you need.
And most importantly, we focus only on what matters to you.
That might be about learning how to use your camera with confidence. It might be about learning to improve your landscapes... or photographing people, exploring macro, or understanding editing. It could also be about working with flash, developing your eye for street photography, or pushing into something more creative like developing your photographer's eye, finding your own style or experimenting with more abstract ideas.
Every session is shaped around you - your level, your interests, and where you want to go next.
If you’re not quite sure what you need, that’s perfectly fine. Get in touch, and we can talk it through together and find the best way forward.

Who is this for?
Private lessons are for hobby-ist photographers who need help right now... not a long-term commitment.
-
You might be completely new to photography and want someone to show you how to get the best out of your camera.
-
You may have picked up bits over the years and understand the basics, but still feel you’ve hit a ceiling and can’t quite move beyond it.
-
You may simply have something specific that just isn’t working for you... and you want to fix it properly.
-
For many people, the problem isn’t the camera - it’s what they do with it. They understand many the technical apsects, but their images lack impact and rarely stand out. As they often put it: “My photos are just a bit boring.”
That frustration is one of the most common reasons people come to me. They feel stuck, unsure how to improve, and don’t know what to change to move forward.
-
Private lessons are also ideal for students needing extra support beyond school or college, photographers who feel their course hasn’t taught them how to actually use their camera, or those who want help with specific areas such as landscapes, photographing people, street photography, or editing.
Whatever your situation, the aim is simple: to give you clarity, confidence, and a clear way forward — without wasting time on things you don’t need.
The Booking Process
Once your payment has been received, I will contact you personally to arrange a convenient date and time for your first session. This initial conversation also allows me to understand exactly what you need help with, ensuring your lesson is tailored specifically to you.

Pricing info available at next stage
If you’d prefer not to do this alone, you’re very welcome to share your tuition with a friend or partner. In many ways, this can make the whole experience even stronger - having someone alongside you to bounce ideas off, compare work, and keep each other moving forward.
It also makes the lesson(s) far more accessible financially. For two people working together, the hourly rate is £120, which is a £30 saving. So you end up effectively paying just £60/hr rather than £75.
To put that into context, before I stepped back into semi-retirement, this level of mentoring for two would have cost in the region of £250. so it represents a significant saving.
This 20% saving also applies to multiple bookings.
If you want to explore this option, book a call with me today. Click the button above.
