A relationship in which a more experienced or more knowledgeable person helps to guide a less experienced or less knowledgeable person.
If you’re not comfortable learning in a workshop environment, or perhaps the scheduled dates of the workshops are difficult for you to attend, there is another option.
Every year Kevin takes on a small number of students to personally mentor.
As a mentoring student, you will meet with Kevin at his office in Fleet or maybe somewhere out on location and you will study photography over the course of a year in a series of modules that are tailored specifically to your needs.
Leaning one-to-one is very different from learning in a classroom. It's more intense and of course, more personal. You are not sharing your teacher with anyone else and you can ask questions whenever you want.
On this course, you will be learning alongside Kevin Ahronson and you can expect instruction at the very highest level. Kevin is one of the best photography teachers in the UK and has personally taught hundreds of students from beginners through to those who want to go professional.
As a one-year student, you will be invited to assist Kevin on real-live photoshoots and perhaps attend one of the 3-monthly student forums. Only five students (plus Kevin) meet up in these forums, to look closer at some of your work and discuss photography issues in-depth. Forums are usually held in a local hotel.
This is a ten-module photography course with photo-assignments between sessions. Each session lasts three hours and will include time to examine your assignment images.
You would meet with Kevin before the first session to analyse your current photographic skill level. Then it's all about finding out what you'd like to receive teaching on.
It could be that you'd like to improve your skills at photographing people, working with flash, shooting wildlife, shooting low light, street photography, landscape, photo-editing and so on. The year would be designed around your needs.
Lessons may be held out in the field, in the studio, they may include models and of course, they may also be held in Kevin's private office, depending on subjects covered.
Having someone who you are accountable to is essential to keep you motivated and on track. It's easy to start out with good intentions, but sometimes we just need help to keep focused.
Once a month you will have the opportunity to feedback to Kevin via webcam. As you work on your assignments it's likely you'll have questions and the webcam one-to-ones can be tremendously helpful.
When you combine this highly tailored syllabus with the flexibility to pick dates and times to suit your calendar, you can see why this course is so exceptional.
